Actress Eva Mendes was crowned as the most desirable woman of 2009 on Wednesday in a poll by online men’s magazine AskMen.com that organizers swear is not all about looks but overall qualities.
Mendes, 34, topped the online magazine’s 9th annual list of “Top 99 Most Desirable Women” after AskMen.com readers cast more than 10 million votes to rank the women with the best qualities for the ideal girlfriend or wife.
She took the top slot from actress Katherine Heigl after placing fourth last year while actress Megan Fox ranked second and Victoria’s Secret model Marisa Miller came in third place.
James Bassil, editor-in-chief of AskMen.com, said the list was a “pulse-check” of the women that readers were not only following but also perceived as more than just a pretty face. “Obviously good looks are one quality but intelligence, ambition and humor also count,” Bassil told Reuters. “There are women in their mid- to late-30s on this list who may be old by industry standards but you see more mature women on this list. The younger women getting a lot of play on gossip sites haven’t had the time to accumulate the achievements that a lot of these women have.”
Rounding out the top 10, in the following order, were:
4. Keeley Hazell,
5. Anne Hathaway,
6. Alessandra Ambrosio,
7. Scarlett Johansson,
8. Rihanna, 9. Kristen Bell
and
10. Kate Beckinsale.

Breaking News: BIG SCOOP! CREATOR ROB THOMAS CONFIRMS ‘VERONICA MARS’ MOVIE
At the tail end of this winter’s television critic’s event, Rob Thomas, who has resurrected his 1998 TV series CUPID for another go-around on ABC, announced that he’s currently working on a VERONICA MARS feature film (based on his short-lived UPN/CW show), now that his new series order has been reduced from thirteen episodes to eight episodes.
“That means I have time to write the VERONICA MARS movie,” he says. “But my writing the movie is half the battle. Someone else has to pay for it. Joel Silver does have a certain pile of money. He called on me saying ‘Can we do this now?’ Kristen wants to do it. Joel wants to do it and I want to do it. For me, that’s the next project.”
Although he wouldn’t reveal exactly what the story would be, he did tell iF, “it’s 70 percent broken in my head.”
“I’ve been struggling with this one plot point and I’m hopeful to figure that out,” he adds. “I watched the final episode of the series a few weeks ago and there were a lot of gaps and the plotting for the original came to me. I mean for the movie, I’m feeling like I’m on the right track now. But I don’t want to give that away yet.
In terms of cast, Thomas says he’s talked with Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni and Kristen Bell.
“Obviously,” he says with a smile.
And while there were always talks of the character of Veronica Mars ending up at the F.B.I., he says that’s not where the movie will be heading.
“The one thing that I will say is where it will pick up,” says Thomas. “I know we did that F.B.I. ‘what if’ thing, but we would not go to that place. I think it would open just days before the Hearst College Graduation. So Veronica would be sort of at the end of her college career.
Party Down is an upcoming comedy on Starz from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas, and two of his former Veronica collaborators, John Enbom and Dan Etheridge. At the TCA Television Critics Association press tour today, clips were shown, revealing some very funny scenes involving the main characters, a group of Los Angeles caterers, with dreams of making it in Hollywood. Memorable moments included Henry (Adam Scott) lamenting his combination of white dress shirt and pink bow tie by saying sarcastically that he was “going for the helpful gay pirate look”, to which Casey (Lizzy Caplan) assures him, “You don’t look helpful”; and Ron (Ken Marino) trying to rub a stain out of his pants, only for it to look like he was trying to rub something else out when he’s seen by Kyle (Ryan Hansen).
Asked if his Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell might appear in an episode, Thomas revealed, ‘Kristen Bell stopped by set the other day and wants to do one of the episodes. She has a gap near the end [of our production schedule]. I think Kristen may appear in the show, which could be really great.”
What do you think of Kristen’s Critic’s Choice look? She plays up the metallic tones of her dress and necklace with pearly hued shadow, tossing her tousled hair back on the sides. Some peach blush and gloss, long false lashes, and lots of black liner complete the look.
